It’s now 10 years since the 2008 GS Safari departed Jindabyne on a loop of the high country so what better reason could there be to head back into some of Australia’s best adventure riding trails. Starting and finishing in the NSW alpine town of Thredbo the 2018 GS Safari will take riders on a southerly five-day loop through the Victorian High country, retracing the best of the 2008 Safari with a few new trails to make this a ride not to miss.

Have you ever seen the BMW Safari videos and thought… one day… one day I’m going to do that? The BMW GS Safari is a great opportunity to get out on your bike and explore this great country. As a fully supported ride that’s been running all over Australia since 1994 we have the team to show you adventure ridding at it’s best.

ENTRIES FOR THE 2018 GS SAFARI OPEN November 1, 2017

Riding in the Australian High Country can be challenging. For the GS Safari we carefully select trails that are both suited to the bikes and also our participants. The routes are predominantly dirt although there will be some nice twisty sealed sections to help link the trails together. Riders should expect to ride around 300+km per day. For newer riders or Safari first timers we strongly recommend the Pre-Safari Off Road Training. More experienced riders will also benefit by taking the course as it’s aimed at riders of all levels and abilities.

The GS Safari group is a diverse bunch from all walks of life.  At most events we have a great mix of returning riders and Safari first timers. There are old and young, father and son and a growing number of female riders. Many lifelong friendships begin on Safari and the spirit of helping each other out is amazing. Everyone is welcome, as long as you’re riding a GS!

Perfected since 1994 there is a large crew on hand to help you enjoy your adventure without the fuss and stress of planning, organising and supporting your own ride. On the 2018 GS Safari we will also include some information sessions and practical demonstrations at the end of the day on topics like tyre changing, GPS navigation and emergency satellite communications.

A small but dedicated BMW Safari team do all the planning, manage bookings, provide pre-event information and ensure that during the event everything runs as smooth as possible. They pride themselves in giving riders the best BMW Safari experience.

Highly qualified on bike medical support provides peace of mind in case things don’t go to plan. Other members of the team are qualified first aiders and carry satellite phones and emergency beacons (Spots etc).

Our BMW qualified tech support team are on hand to help when needed. This includes a sweep vehicle as well as an on bike technician.

Riding remote and adventurous trails always raises concerns about tyres. What if I get a flat, how do I fix it? BMW Safari look after all of this with a dedicated tyre support vehicle. Tyres can be pre-purchased and fitted at the start or during the event. Emergency tyre repairs are easily taken care of on-route or at the end of the day.

Having your luggage transported each day has real advantages. Removing the added weight of luggage from your bike during the event is a huge plus, especially when terrain become challenging.

Sometimes riding to and from the Safari is an event in itself. For those that are time poor we can arrange bike transport enabling you to fly in and out of the event. Transport suppliers are BMW approved to ensure your motorcycle arrives in tip top shape, ready for an amazing ride.

There is nothing quite like professional rider training to sharpen your skills for a week of adventure riding. At this year’s GS Safari we will again offer a pre-event 2-day training course. The course is run by BMW’s legendary Off Road Training team and caters for riders of all levels.
