GETTING HOME

The Safari finishes in Leura, NSW on Friday the 3rd of April 2020 with post event dinner. There will also be bike transport available post event that can be booked when you complete the rider details section of your registration.

 

BIKE TRANSPORT

Bike transport can be booked when you complete your rider profile. Bike transport is available for participants that want to have their bike transported from their local dealer to the start and/ or following the finish of the event. Bike collection prior to the event and bike drop off following the event, must be completed during normal business hours. Bikes may be required for transport up to 2 weeks prior to the event and similarly returned up to two weeks after the end of the event. Specific dates will be emailed to participants who have booked bike transport through their Rider Profile.

 

PRE-SAFARI BIKE INSPECTION

The Safari Ready motorcycle inspection is designed to ensure that your motorcycle is good to go for a week long BMW Safari adventure. Every bike that passes a Safari Ready inspection is eligible for technical support during the event. The BMW Safari Ready inspection is free and available from all authorised BMW Motorrad dealers. You will be notifyed of a time frame for this check after you have registered. If you don’t live close to an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer, we suggest that you have your bike checked at your own cost by a credible dealership to ensure that you are Safari ready.

 

TYRE SUPPORT

Adventure style knobby tyres are highly reccomended for all GS Safari riders. All of the Safari Crew bikes will be fitted with Metzeler Karoo 3 tyres. The GS Safari route is a 5-day ride across a range of surfaces from bitumen to clay to rocks. This means you need to have a tyre plan. If you require new tyres at the start of the ride or you feel you may wear a set of tyres out, then please order tyres when you complete the tyre and transport form which will be made available on Wednesday December 18. We will stock a selection of tyres in case of emergencies. Tyres available include Metzeler Karoo 3, Continental TKC 80 and Pirelli Scorpion Rally. Pricing is dependent on size and is based on the manufacturers recommended retail price. In addition to this a fitting fee is also included with all tyres purchased. An additional fee of $50 per tyre is applicable if you require refitting of any used tyres. If you would like to keep any old tyres and have them freighted back to your local dealership following the Safari, you will need to confirm with the tyre crew and pay for this service. Recycling of unwanted old tyres will be done free of charge. Fitting times must be selected when you order your tyres through the Tyre & Transport Form. Please note that only spare tyres purchased through the BMW Safari website will be carried on the tyre support vehicle and available to be fitted during the Safari.

 

PRE-SAFARI OFF ROAD TRAINING

BMW Motorrad Australia’s GS Off Road Training program has been established for well over a decade and has been conducted by Chris Urquhart and Shane Booth since 2013. It is Australia’s most experienced and professional Adventure Bike Rider Training program. At this year’s GS Safari we will again offer a Pre-Safari 2-day training course based on Level 1 and GS Safari specific content. The dates are 28-29th March at a venue located nearby to San Remo, VIC. This training is optional and can be purchased when completing your Rider Registration, accommodation packages will also be available.

 

ARRIVAL TIME

Safari sign in will be held at the Silver Water Resort San Remo, VIC on Sunday 29th April from 3pm. The rider briefing and Safari Welcome Dinner will follow.

 

ACCOMMODATION

The first night of included accommodation is Sunday 29th of March and the final night of included accommodation is Friday 3rd of April.

Two weeks prior to the commencement of the Safari you will receive an email liting your accommodation itinerary which will specify the details of your allocated accommodation throughout the week. Please have your itinerary available when you reach your destination each day. Print it out and take a copy or have it available on your phone for reference. *Please note that this is an adventure ride and due to the size of some towns visited accommodation options can be limited. For example, apartments may contain more than one room. This means the Adventurer option may have more than one person allocated per apartment.

 

LUGGAGE TRUCK

A luggage truck is provided for all participants to carry their luggage each day. No hard panniers will be carried and all luggage should be restricted to one medium sized piece of soft luggage per person. A 55L roll bag is the ideal size. Bags are stacked in the back of a truck and no responsibility will be taken for any damage to luggage. The luggage truck will be located at a central location each afternoon as indicated on the daily route sheet. All luggage will need to be dropped off at the truck before you depart on your ride each day. Participants who are staying in accommodation away from this central luggage point will need to transport their luggage by bike at the start and end of the day as required.

 

HOW TO PACK YOUR BIKE

It’s a condition of entry that your luggage is carried on the supplied luggage truck each day of the Safari. This lightens your bike and makes negotiating the trails easier. On your bike you can have a tank bag to carry a small selection of personal items like phone and camera etc. Another small pack on the back of the bike can also be useful to carry a spare tube and tools etc to keep you self-sufficient during the week. No hard or soft panniers or top boxes to be fitted to your motorcycle during the Safari.

 

THE ROUTE

Two lead riders head out in the morning to mark the course. The route arrows are the main source of navigation on the ride, followed by route sheets and then GPS guidance. Please note that arrows take priority in navigation. Our lead riders may alter the route due to road hazards or weather conditions. GPS files will also be available as a guide to navigate the route. Files will be in .gpx format suitable for BMW Navigators and Garmin devices.

 

EVENT PARTICIPATION

Riding Gear: It is a condition of entry that Riders at all times during the Safari use adequate safety equipment and appropriate riding gear. We HIGHLY recommend wearing off-road motorcycle boots like the BMW GS Pro Boot or similar.

 

CANCELLATION

In the unfortunate circumstance that you need to withdraw from the Event, you can do this at any time by notifying the Event Provider in writing by email to admin@bmwsafari.com Cancellation fees apply and can be found in the Event Terms and Conditions.

 

INSURANCE

It is recommended that you protect yourself with appropriate insurance cover prior to your event participation. This may be very helpful in the unfortunate circumstance of your travel plans changing for any reason. Insurance types to consider are Roadside Assistance Cover, Full Comprehensive Motorcycle Insurance and Domestic Travel Insurance.
